What is Yoga?

“Yoga is a simple process of reversing the ordinary outward flow of energy and consciousness so that the mind becomes a dynamic center of direct perception no longer dependent upon the fallible senses but capable of actually experiencing Truth.”
– Paramahansa Yogananda

Yoga is a system for living that involves every aspect of being.

It is not a religion, or belief system; it is a map of exploration that invites us to an education and lifestyle that is based in Universal Truth that leads us to self-realization.

Yoga means to yoke.

We are joining physical with spiritual, individual consciousness with universal consciousness or spirit, body with breath. Though many people think of yoga only as physical exercises — the asanas, or postures that have gained widespread popularity — these are actually only a small aspect of this profound science of unfolding the infinite potentials of the human mind and soul.

At Live in Joy, our classes combine the movement of physical postures (asanas) and breathwork along with stillness, with times for introspection & contemplation.

Whether it is a more vigorous vinyasa flow, a gentle yin practice or mantra class, each class is designed to enable students to move more deeply into their own understanding of the body, mind and soul's journey.
